Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 20 (ANI): BJP’s Andhra Pradesh spokesperson Sadineni Yamini Sharma on Sunday welcomed the arrest of YSRCP MP PV Midhun Reddy by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the alleged ₹3,200 crore liquor scam.
Sharma stated that the arrest demonstrates the accountability, transparency, and commitment of the current government.
She accused Midhun Reddy of manipulating the state’s liquor policy, altering the automatic order placement system, and collecting kickbacks. He allegedly funneled funds through shell companies, amassing huge sums of money.
Speaking to ANI, Yamini Sharma said, “On behalf of the BJP, I welcome the arrest of YSRCP MP PV Midhun Reddy by the SIT in the biggest-ever liquor scam in the country, where he got involved and manipulated excise policy. He also altered the automatic order placement system in liquor. As we all know, he collected kickbacks and funnelled funds through shell companies.”
The BJP leader emphasised that the arrest is a landmark moment for the Government of Andhra Pradesh and its law enforcement agencies.
“So, this is a very significant step for the Government of Andhra Pradesh and also for the Police Department and it shows the accountability, transparency and commitment of our government. This also shows that there is no political vendetta. When law is in action, it will definitely make these criminals understand what the law is actually,” she said.
The SIT claimed that Reddy played a crucial role in the liquor scam, which involved replacing popular liquor brands with lesser-known ones in exchange for bribes
Sharma added that this is likely just the beginning of a wider crackdown, suggesting that more arrests are likely to come soon.
“I think this is just the beginning, the remaining people who were involved in this massive network of liquor scam will be behind bars very soon…,” she told.
Meanwhile, YSRCP leaders have condemned the arrest, accusing Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of using the case as a tool for political revenge.
In a press statement, former ministers Botsa Satyanarayana, Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani), Ambati Rambabu, Merugu Nagarjuna, and party general secretary G Srikanth Reddy expressed serious concerns over the misuse of power to target opposition leaders.
The statement said that the arrest made after a full day of interrogation in the so-called liquor scam case demonstrates how far CM Chandrababu is willing to go to suppress dissent.
The leaders noted that such actions will not endure for long and that public support for YSRCP is stronger than ever. They warned that the ruling party cannot silence YSRCP through fabricated cases or forced arrests, according to the statement. (ANI)
